Design and Accessories

The Samsung POWERBOT R7070 Robot is not the slimmest robot in the city.

This is partly due to the functional aesthetics and the bulky form factor. It measures 3.8 x 13.4 x 13.7 inches (HWD) and weighs a hefty 9.5 pounds.

This is big, but not so big that it cannot slip under the lower profile furniture. It should be able to clean under most beds although it might struggle with sofas and coffee tables.

While most robotic vacuums are circular, the Samsung POWERBOT is an elongated D-shape.

Its front bumper is a straight edge that helps to clean corners and get right up against walls.

Above you will find the camera in a recess behind the bumper.

Underneath you will find the top-loading trash can and release.

And on the back is the touch screen with a cleaning mode button, a play/pause button and a locking button.

If you turn the Samsung POWERBOT over, you’ll find a self-cleaning roller, case sensors, charging contacts, two main wheels, a rear wheel and an on/off switch.

As for accessories, the Samsung POWERBOT comes with your standard loading dock, an additional filter, and a remote control.

There are no side brushes or batteries that need to be installed. So it’s just a matter of docking and loading the bot.

While you are waiting, you can slide two AA batteries into the remote control or mark problem areas (such as rooms with lots of cables, mess, fragile objects) with the magnetic tape so that the Samsung POWERBOT does not enter those areas.

Once the vacuum is fully charged, you can press the Play / Pause button on the bot or the remote to get started right away.

The Smart Home app is easy to use, albeit a bit flawed. After adding Samsung POWERBOT, you can view a history of previous notifications or view the main robot vacuum control screen. From there you can control the vacuum with the directional pad, start the auto-scan mode or start the spot-clean mode. By scrolling down, you can see how much battery life remains, select the suction power level, schedule cleaning, re-purify, or view history logs.

While it’s easier to schedule cleaning using the app, you can do anything with the included remote. It looks like an average TV remote, complete with a direction block and a large pause/play button in the middle.

Below the D-pad, there are six buttons: Clock, Remote Control, Repeat, Schedule, Spot, and Sound. Most of these buttons – like clock, schedule – are self-explanatory. Spot starts the Spot Cleaning mode, while Repeat causes the Samsung POWERBOT R7070 Robot Vacuum to clean a room several times until the battery is nearly empty. Sound can be used to turn sound effects on and off while the remote control turns Wi-Fi on or off.

At the top left is the power button and at the top right is the charge button, which brings the robot back to the dock. Above the control pad is a series of three buttons that allow you to switch the suction power.

Performance

The Samsung POWERBOT R7070 Robot Vacuum is pretty smart since robots usually vacuum with cameras. Instead of spinning indiscriminately in a room, the Samsung POWERBOT uses its camera to become methodically cleaner and weave back and forth in a serpentine fashion.

And thanks to its flat edge, it’s better to get straight into a corner or against a wall. You can also specify that multiple passes be made in a room when something happens the first time.

I did three separate cleaning jobs in my apartment and was pleased that the Samsung POWERBOT was able to easily navigate across different floor types.

With ease, he mastered the increased transition between corridor and kitchen. The vacuum was good even on darker soils. My living room rug has stumbled many Robot vacuums because of its black border and dark geometric patterns.

The Samsung POWERBOT has cleaned it up though. Not only that, I noticed that it automatically increased suction on the carpet and lowered it when it was moved to the hardwood.

Another benefit of camera-based navigation is that the Samsung POWERBOT, while strong, does not lift my furniture or move things where they do not belong.

In most cases, it navigated carefully around obstacles, although I had to save it once or twice between the chair legs.

Conversely, random cleaners sometimes push objects into another room even with automatic docking; the Samsung POWERBOT could always find its way home without help.

When preparing your home properly, do not hesitate to run the bot while doing business.

Battery life

Battery life on the SamsungPOWERBOT is mediocre. In Quiet mode, that about 90 minutes, which is good for a robot vacuum. Normal mode, you only get about an hour of cleaning.

And if you want to clean up on the turbo setting, you’ll get a full 30 minutes. You may be tempted to use Breastfeeding mode to achieve the longest possible runtime, and that should be enough if you already have relatively clean floors and minimal carpeting.

However, if you have carpets, pets or stubborn dust bunnies, you should at least stay on normal.

The Samsung POWERBOT R7070 is a solid robot vacuum cleaner. It navigates well, is an excellent cleaner and can easily be controlled by remote control.

The only problem is that its Wi-Fi features are not fully available yet.
