How to know if someone blocked you on Snapchat?: Getting blocked is awful. But how to know if someone blocked you on Snapchat. We’ll talk about it in a bit down below. You can scroll below if you wanna miss out on some cool intro. 😉
Snapchat is very popular multimedia messaging mobile application, which was the brainchild of Reggie Brown who was later joined by Evan Spiegel (CEO) and Bobby Murphy (CTO).
Several months after the launch of the application in 2011, Reggie was expelled from the company on some internal disputes, which was later settled for $158 million.
However, that did not affect the performance of the application, and Snapchat witnessed huge growth in the coming years.
Snapchat has around 229 million active users around the globe as of March 2020. The application witnessed a 20% increase in active users as compared to the last quarter.
However, as the lockdown extends the number of active users is expected to rise even higher in the coming quarter.
This is the age of hyper-connectivity, which has transformed our lives to a great extent.
The current lockdown is such a historical event that is new to not only the current generation but the older generation too. Employers asked their workers to continue working from home, which created a lot of potential for the IT companies.
Since Snapchat is popular in the younger segment of the society and due to lock down more and more people wanted to connect to their friends and family, the mobile application witnessed a surge in usage.
The average time spent on the application rose by 20% and communication within the application witnessed an increase of 30% during the first three months of the year.
Increased intensity of communication has its pros and cons.
An application like Snapchat that gives a unique feature of erasing your messages or multimedia content automatically after expiry adds anonymity. That anonymity gives a person more confidence online as compare to real life.
This added confidence allows you to connect to more people around the globe. Among those friends, some will share your believes and hobbies but others might not be able to connect with you on the same frequency.
It is very much possible that amid hyper-connectivity you realize that some of your friends have gone silent and you wonder if they are ghosting on you or have blocked you.
This can happen for a variety of reasons since it is not easy to make friends online who match the same frequency.
An online application like Snapchat allows you to connect to people with you being in charge of your privacy.
If you don’t feel like connecting to someone or you witness any un-ethical behavior from the other person you have the opportunity to simply unfriend them from your circle or block them permanently.
This is a special privilege of online relationships since in the physical world it is not as simple as it is online to mute the person you don’t want to deal with anymore.

Did they really block you on Snapchat?
There are so many applications and each has its features which makes it very confusing to understand what has happened if you are unable to communicate with one of your friends on some particular application such as Snapchat.
If you cannot find your conversation thread with that user and unable to view their profile and stories, it indicates that the user might have blocked you.
Yet there are so many possible explanations as to why you are unable to communicate with your friend.
The mobile phone of your friend probably has some technical issue that is preventing your friend to reach back to you or they might have deleted their account. It is also possible that they have mistakenly removed you from their friends’ list or might have blocked you.
Before jumping to conclusions that your friend cheated or acted rudely by blocking you, it is important to ensure what happened and try to understand that there are other possibilities.
If you do not use Snapchat in a bad way and you are on good terms with your friends on the application, then its very much possible that it happened as a mistake or some misunderstanding.
We all know what kind of relationship we have with our friends, every person has a different personality and has different borders which if you cross even unconsciously can push them away from you in a second.
That is why it’s very important to rationally understand the relationship you have with the friend who you suspect has been ignoring you, ghosting you, or have blocked you.
(Make sure you read our post on restricted number blocking too)
Snapchat Method no.1:
Since Snapchat does not notify users when they are blocked or removed from the contact list of other users, you will not be notified of any such change.
One of the early signs is that your device will no longer receive notification from the Snapchat account of your friend.
That means that you are unable to view their stories or snaps and send them snaps and messages. Nevertheless, there are several ways to identify if you have been removed from the contact list or blocked by the other user on Snapchat.
o Log into your Snapchat account and browse through your chat history.
o Search for the user in your chat.
o Make sure that you have had a recent chat with the user.
o If the name does not appear then it means that you may be blocked by the user.
Method no.2:
If you log into your account after a long time and you are unable to find the chat with that user then there is a probability that the chat was removed after expiry, which is one of the features of the application.
Another possibility is that you don’t have a recent active chat session with that user.
In this case, you can follow the steps described below.
o First of all, make sure that you have a stable internet connection because an unstable or slow internet connection can result in a lag in sending your messages which can create a lot of confusion and embarrassment later on.
o Secondly, make sure that your application is up to date. An outdated older version of applications will have bugs in them, which the application developer continuously work on to resolve and ensure smooth functioning of all the features of the applications.
o Log into your Snapchat account by tapping on the Snapchat icon.
o Swipe down on the main screen and tap on “Add friends” option.
o The application will ask you to search the person by username or by your mobile contacts.
o Search the user by their username and wait for the results to appear.
o Once you find your user, tap on their profile to open a pop-up menu with the username.
o If the user has posted an active story then check if you can view their stories.
o Check for their snap score, if the snap score is not visible to you then it means that you have been deleted or blocked by the user as their friend.
o If the username and display name are the same then it is also an indication that you have been blocked by the user.
o Try adding them, if the application allows you to send the request then you were not blocked by the user, rather deleted. However, if you are unable to add them then it means that you have been blocked.
Don’t jump on conclusions:
Once again, it’s very important to understand that all these steps are just indications to figure out if you were blocked by the user.
If you are unable to find the chat thread in your Snapchat account and the username does not appear as you search in the search bar, it does not give you a definite proof that you were blocked.
If the other user deletes their own Snapchat account, their chat threads, stories, snaps will disappear and you will not be able to find them under the Search tab.
It will give you a false impression that you have been blocked. It takes Snapchat around 30 days to delete an account from Snapchat but if you have viewed their messages before 30 days then chat threads will disappear before the account is deleted, which is one of the features of Snapchat.
How to be sure if you are blocked on Snapchat:
To confirm that you are blocked on Snapchat by the other user, you will have to use another Snapchat account.
You can either make a new Snapchat account or request your friend to help you with this.
There is one ethical issue in this step when someone has blocked you it means they don’t want to communicate with you and they have the right to do so.
Using another account to stalk on them or asking your friends to use their account as a disguise is a very unethical way to approach anyone.
In certain cases, if the user who blocked you comes to know that you have been using another account as a disguise just to creep on them, you can face legal action from the user under harassment. Proceeding with caution, if there is no other way to contact the person you can follow the below steps.
o You will have to log off your current account and then sing up for a new account with a different email or mobile number.
o After successfully creating your account, you can tap on the Search tab and look for the user by their username. See if their profile appears.
o Alternatively, you can ask your friend to tap on the search bar and look for their username.
o If you and your friend have that user as a mutual friend then you can simply ask your friend if he/she is facing a similar difficulty in communicating.
o If your friend also cants find the user under his/her contact then its possible that the user has deleted their account from Snapchat or they have also blocked your mutual friend.
o If your friend can still access chat threads, snaps and stories then it means the user has blocked you.
o If you and your friend don’t have that user as a mutual friend, simply ask them to search for their username and see if they can look up their profile in the search bar. If they can, then it means you are blocked.
What to do after you are blocked?
As described above, there are ethical issues in this approach and if there is no other way to approach that person only then these steps should be taken.
After making sure that you have been blocked on Snapchat by the user you should contact that person personally and figure out what lead to such a move by them.
Make sure you don’t jump to conclusions without analyzing the situation carefully.
In the end…
It is important to differentiate between being blocked by someone and being deleted by some users.
Every user has a different privacy setting, some people might allow everyone to check their stories and some might restrict that to their friends only.
Similarly, some people might allow anyone to message them but some profiles will not. If you send a snap to a profile and their profile icon is grey, that means you are not in their contact list.
A purple icon means that they have added you to their contact list.
Sometimes due to technical issues the application can malfunction, which can result in confusion and problems.
At times messages were delivered and seen by the profiles, which were inactive due to some technical bugs. Also at times, people send snaps mistakenly and there is no option available in Snapchat to delete your snaps that you have sent, although you can delete your messages.
Therefore, to fix that issue the other user might block you before you view their snap because blocking you will disappear all the conversations and snaps.
Therefore, it’s important to always keep a contingency that a variety of scenarios are possible and avoid jumping to quick conclusions because relations are more important than applications.
