10 Things you Should Remind Yourself All the Time

I will share with you about what motivates me in life: There are some things that we only realize when any event triggers our “realization button” in our heads.

Watching a guy who can’t see or somebody who is begging for a change makes us thankful and grateful.

I say, why not trigger those realization buttons every day by making ourselves consider the following points and stay grateful and thankful all the time. That way we will complain less, stop blaming and will be way happier.

What motivates me in life?

Helping people:

Helping others out will allow you to socialize with them and the more you interact with them, the lesser your stress levels get. Stress is actually a fight or flight response and it happens because your brain feels you are not safe.

When you help others out you feel connected with them so you get a sense of calmness and being safe, so you become happy, you make friends who would most probably help you out in your need and socialize with them will make you happy.

You do something good, you feel good, you feel better about yourself for making others smile, you feel proud and get a sense of accomplishment. Seeing somebody smile makes us smile, it’s in our nature.

When we realize this all, we try to help others.

If you want happiness for an hour — take a nap. You want happiness for a day — go fishing. If you want happiness for a month — get married. You want happiness for a year — inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime — help someone else.
Chinese Proverb

Passion is an emotion. It’s anything that you want to do in your life, which you love.

It’s something you are willing to suffer for. What do you want to do which you love and are willing to suffer for?

What do you want to do which you will not regret when you are 40 years old? Anything that you want to be, you can. Only you are responsible for all your actions and consequences.

Life is not in our control. It’s fragile.

It goes away just like that. What’s the point of trying to get something out from your mediocre life when there are only regrets that you have to face later on when you are old?

We need to live our life to the fullest right now. We need to take some time out to think what we really want with our lives every day. We need to follow our passion.

Significance of time:

Earl Nightingale explained the importance of time once by saying:

If you spent one extra hour, each day, studying your chosen field, you’ll become a national expert in that field in five years or less.

I love this quote. It’s something that changed my whole perspective of seeing things in my life. After reading this quote, I felt like I can do anything I can be anyone I want.

I always wanted to learn to play guitar but it always used to seem so overwhelming, but then I applied this rule and thought that okay 1 hour for 5 years is almost 1800 hours of practice. I can do this.

It’s been now two and half years since I started playing guitar. I give exactly one hour of practice to it daily and can’t believe that a guy who used to take the help of the other hand to put chords down right can now sweep arpeggios which seemed too challenging of a guitar technique to master at first.

The point is to start doing things which you would not regret later on!

“Just be yourself.” You might hear it like a thousand times but yet, still most of us don’t even know what it means.

It means that you have to love yourself, and your personality and never have to be ashamed of who you really are.

You have to understand that you can not please everybody.

Some people will love you, some will hate you and many won’t even care.

So don’t worry.

Don’t get upset when people are mean to you. Most of the time they are like that because they are jealous. Believe in yourself and never change to please someone.

You are special in your own unique way. And you have talents hidden in you. You have the power to do anything you want to do, you just have to believe in yourself. Just remember that nobody is perfect, so stop living your life in self-doubt.

All of us are special in our own ways. A thing which is easy for you might not be easy for somebody else or a thing which is difficult for you to do might be very easy to do for somebody, so stop comparing yourselves with others. Be yourself.

The more you like yourself, the less you are like anyone else, which makes you unique.
Walt Disney

Counting Successes:

As a human being, we lose motivation to do something if we don’t see some results for a while, from it, no matter how psyched we are to do it.

We need acknowledgments for our successes in order to move ahead.

When we acknowledge ourselves of our successes, we feel proud and motivated.

Don’t wait for people to appreciate your successes because all of them have different standards, some will really like your work, some won’t even care and some would hate it, and so you have to count your own successes and celebrate it.

Every success no matter how big or small it is should be acknowledged and celebrated. Count your successes every day.

How lucky are we?:

If we shrink the population of this earth into just 1000 people, then 490 of them would be male, 510 would be female, only 10 of those people would be lucky enough to own a computer and only 10 of those one thousand people would be able to read and write properly because they will have a college degree.

Yes! only 10!

According to a research, 49 million people have some sort of disability with which they have to live with every day.

In the US alone 1 in every 5 babies born are disabled. They can’t read like you. The can’t see. They can’t write.

If you are not from those people then you are very much blessed.

Did you know that 12 people in Africa die of hunger every minute? If you got food to eat, a shelter to live in and clothes to wear then you are richer than 70% of the world’s population.

Realize this every day that you, my friend, are lucky.

The picture of success:

Life is like this mountain, all of us climb it and those who reach the top realize that all of that effort, hard work, everything was for nothing, they just don’t like the view metaphorically of course.

People spent all the lives working hard, they work and work and in the end, they realize that it was all for others.

They never thought what they wanted to do in life. All their lives they work to make other people achieve their dreams.

Do what you love to do.

Give it everything you got because in the end that would be the only thing that will make you proud and happy.

Draw and save a mental image of your success and remind yourself of it every day.

What do you want to achieve in life?

Where is your goal?

What have you done to achieve it?

Do you even have an image of success?

What is your dream for which you are willing to fight for every day?

Give me one thing that you want very badly?

You need to ask these questions to yourself every day. You should have a clear image of what you want to do in this life.

Learn from all the people who became a success after so many failures.

Staying away from negativity:

Life is filled with positive as well as negative energies and it’s only up to us which we want to surround ourselves with.

There are movies which will make you sad and at the same time, there are some which will make you laugh your butt off.

There are people who are so depressing that they will just suck the whole energy out of you yet there are also some people who are motivating. And it only comes down to your choice.

The more positive the input you give to your brains the more positive the outcome is and the more positive you think.

Stay away as much from negativity as you can. Watch comedy instead of sad dramas. Surround yourselves with motivating people. Listen to positive music. This life is too small for negativity

Laughing enough:

Look at this baby’s picture, I don’t know about you but it made me laugh. As we grow older we start judging all the humor we hear of whether they are worthy of our laughs or not.

We make higher and higher standards of “funny” and so we laugh a lot little less. Our bodies learn not to laugh anymore.

A research shows that children of pre-school aged laugh way too much then the adults.

A study showed that these children laugh as much as 300 times a day where an adult only laughs 16 times in a day.

I don’t know who said, that “laughter is the best medicine”, but he/she was absolutely right. Indeed it’s the best medicine and literally too. It’s a medicine with no side effects.

Health professionals have found that laughing helps to decrease the levels of blood pressure and stress in our body by releasing endorphins (hormones which reduce pain). It gives one a sense of well-being.

A good laugh is also a workout for your belly, diaphragm and various other muscles including your heart.

Remind yourself every day that you need to laugh more.

Invest in Laughter.

Power of God:

Light can travel 6 times around the earth in less than 1 second. That same light needs 100,000 years to cross our galaxy “The milky way”. We can’t even imagine how huge our galaxy is.

Now think about this universe. There are more than 100 billion galaxies in the universe, most of them even bigger than our Milky Way. The Universe is so gigantic that light is still coming from the big bang, means when we see at the moment right after the big bang (through NASA’s huge telescopes, like Hubble), we actually see 13 billion years in the past.

There is just no way we can comprehend how huge the universe is and yet some scientists even believe that there could be multi-universes.

All of this, matter, time and space was all created by a single point. Look how perfectly balanced everything is.

The moon revolves around Earth, the earth around the Sun, Sun around the Black Hole at the center of our galaxy and galaxies revolve around bigger ones. There is no way that it’s all just a coincidence.

There is indeed a higher power.

Who created time, space and the matter. God is not bound to time or dimension.

God is here, He is there when you are reading this.

He is in every single time slice.

We need to realize the power of God every day.

It gives us a broader image of everything. We need to thank Him for all. Sure this life and time is filled with pain and sufferings but how small is it, compared to life in the hereafter which is forever infinity? Nothing.

Now I’m not imposing any religion or anything.

I’m just saying that we should remind ourselves every day that there is a higher being who is the most Powerful.

  1. What an inspiring list! I truly believe that we each have the power and authority to create the quality and course of our life journey, and you’ve provided us with wonderful examples of how to go about that. Thank you!

  2. Welcome to my site Marquita. And you are always welcome =)
    Stay Blessed

  3. I love the list, Usman
I think what really helps is to get to know yourself, the good, the bad, and the ugly. We all have a bit of each! Then, happiness shouldn’t elude you, you just have to figure out what you really truly want!

It always surprises me when I see so many that have no idea what they want, but they envy others that have found happiness!

Take each day, be grateful, live it to its fullest, live without regrets. In my world, there are no mistakes, only choices and experiences. With the right mindset, you should be able to live a free and happy life being content with what life has given you.

    • Nice to see you here again Deborah. My favorite one is last by the way.

You are right People just wake up every morning after abusing that alarm clock or should I say phone….and than they eat, go to work like everybody else…come home…watch TV… I mean they are just living an average life.
They don’t know what they want in life and even f they they, it’s buried deep don in their hearts.
      They have no passions.
They need to realize this thing everyday.

  4. Hi Usman,

What a great list! I stay with positive people and keep away from the negative ones like the plague. You cannot change nor please them, so they are happy in the negative world. I don’t go there.

I have to say that I find a way to belly laugh every day. It just happens and it sure feels good. I like the analogy of the mountain you have given. Success is funny that way. I’ve climbed many mountains. After one, we have to visualize another and never stop. And yes, never stop learning.

Most importantly, if God wasn’t in my life, I would probably have no self worth nor energy to live a wonderful life.
